Ono's Tweets + other background info

As you may or may not know of, Katsumi Ono, the director of 5D's has a twitter here. He answers questions on occasion about 5D's and such. Luckily neo_arkadia has taken in translating the tweets, I am just reposting them.

I recomend reading them, as they contain a lot of information that's no where mentioned in the series itself. Also please keep in mind that there are spoilers up till the very end of 5D's.

These are remarks made by regular fans to Katsuono:
"This week was also interesting. Especially with how Black Feather Dragon took an active role. Is the Geoglyph of Scar-Red Nova and that image we saw of it significant to each other?"

Katsuono's reply:
"The Motif of Scar-Red Nova is Tezcatlipoca. The Motif of his magical Smoke Mirror is also connected to this."

Teilswing:
I heard a rumor on the Internet that the opening and ending of the show won't be changing anymore, is that true?

Katsuono:
We've changed it a little but the current one is the final Opening and Ending for 5D's, isn't it?

Teilswing:
Ah. I see. I like 5D's, so I wish you could keep leading with it as long as possible. I personally regret it's ending...

Teilswing:
There's 2 kinds of way of writing Z-ONE. The normal way of Z-ONE, and the Ending's spelling of Zoon (Zone in Katakana). What's up with that?

Katsuono:
That bit isn't under my control, so whoever does that doesn't understand I guess. I pay attention to the actual production.

Teilswing:
Ahh... Thank you very much. But does that make me right to presume Z-ONE (Zone) and Z-ONE (Z-1) are different things. Is this because of how Z-ONE changes form depending on who sees him?

Katsuono:
I guess even though we neatly and cleanly transcribed it in the Latin Alphabet to begin with, whoever's in charge of that decided to make it Katakana. Buttt... I must shut myself up when talking about Z-ONE. In the future, we might learn more about this.

7azu7a:
This was also a great episode! My little brother told me "The Opening and Ending look a tad different.". I tried looking to see what changed. (Laugh).

Katsuono:
Pretty~ When you've seen it for a while, it becomes a bit hard to notice what changed, sorta like in one of those Mistake Search Puzzles. It's a little different from last month's opening.

Suzutakal:
So you're saying it's best to get it if you're someone who hasn't watched in a while?

Katsuono:
Something like that.

Hinata165:
I, a Fan have a question for the producer, Ono. I'd also like to ask Mr. Asanuma. Crow is named in such a way like "Crow Hogan = Kurou Hougan", which is a title held by Minamoto no Yoshitsune, correct? So, I was thinking to myself... in that case, is it supposed to be Crow = Tengu? So if I say to my son (A 3rd Year High School student and Duelist) Boastfully "Manma Crow Yakara Karasu Nan Chaun" (Ark fails here) I'm sorry if it's too much to ask for Mr. Asanuma's ID so I might be able to ask this question.

Katsuono:
Crow Hogan is correctly intended to be a pun on Hougan, a title held by the famous Yoshitsune. This was sort of based off of the art we got from Mr. Takahashi. I oddly decided that we should use the Black Feather series in conjunction with a character who was a Trickster who could always change how he acts. So I was thinking Mount Kurama (Home of the Tengu) and the Tengu as Keywords here.

Katsuono:
The head of Security who arrested Kiryu was the Chief Director who was scolding Ushio in Episode 2 about "You're a member of Security before you're a Duelist". After getting promoted, he changed the style of his moustache and I guess he put on some weight.

Katsuono:
So, at the end of 2010. The Mark of the Signers are... The Head, The Wings, The Fore Claws, The Feet Claws, and a Mask. A Mask was put on the tail. That shift of the marks when Yusei was dueling Godwin? I personally like to say the mask shittered, and a new head appeared when it cracked open.

Magicalstage:
Oh. Huh. I always thought it was simply a Tail Mark. When I saw it on TV, I always though it was just a clumsy way to make Yusei the main character. But it was really something like that? ... So in that case, would you still call Crow's mark a "Mask", then?

Katsuono:
It would seem.

Katsuono:
The Mark which appeared on Rua on today's Episode is the "Heart" Mark. It's a Mark that's a heart held in the Claw of Ruka's Mark. We based on it on the pictures of Hearts in Mayan and Aztec Sacrifices to the Gods, which were eaten.

Ark notes: (I think he then mentions it might of been too obvious had it been initially drawn on the completed mark.)

Iz39:
I've heard the heart was something the Crimson Dragon demanded from humans, is that a way I should I interpret it?

Katsuono:
Because it's a thing of myth, there's various ways to take it. It might be the Crimson Dragon's own heart that it sacrificed of its own accord.

Suzutaka1:
About the mark of the Heart of the Crimson Dragon. I notice it was missing from the mark's instances in TF5 and in the Anime until recently. However, it was shown with the Heart in the completed Mark in World Championship 2010 for the DS.

*Note: This isn't Ono's Tweet, but a Tweet XYZ quoted in relevance to Ono's Tweets.

Teilswing:
What's the name of Aporia's D-Wheel. The Name it has around the net is the "Trishula Model" (ahahaha).

Katsuono:
According to Set Management, it's the T (Trinidart) Ouroboros. Mr. Uchiyama of Set Production comes up these names.

Teilswing:
Z-ONE, is he a human? Or is he a Machine?

Katsuono:
He's a Human.

Mojiyou:
I find the faces on the stomach of the Jikaishin kinda creepy, so what kind of meaning do they have?

Katsuono:
The faces on the bodies of the Jikaishin? They're the faces of Angels. The bodies you see are them possessing metal suits of armor and manipulating them. The Armor isn't reflections, and I think it's actually them living inside the armor.

Akagami66:
Nice to talk to you? Why didn't Jack give Yusei Scar-Red Nova Dragon? Is it because Yusei still doesn't know Burning Soul?

Katsuono:
Something like that.

Kuo_n:
I saw today's Episode! I was suprised about the truth of Z-ONE! I'm curious about how many years in the future Z-ONE comes from? Is it like a couple decades... after Yusei died? I was looking at the title, and that's what convinced me? Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule!

Katsuono:
Z-ONE when he was still entirely organic was from a future of about... 200 years from the present. I thought it was obvious due to how wondrous the future we saw in flashbacks looked.

m_kirako:
Will 5D's be taking a break on March 16th?

Katsuono:
Sadly, it will be taking a break.

isla_root:
So in the previous timeline where Z-ONE didn't interfere with everything, where the heck did Yusei get Shooting Star Dragon if Z-ONE didn't give it to him...

Katsuono:
Z-ONE's intervention just expediated a process Yusei was going to instigate anyways.

Mojiyou:
(Globbity Gook) So was it decided from the begiining that Rua would become a Signer?

Katsuono:
Yup. I decided from the moment we started designing the marks.

Ujimiyan:
So, are "Z-ONE" and "Aporia" their real names? Or is it like some sort of code name?

Katsuono:
They're code names.

Gureito11:
So the movie I saw in theaters hasn't changed since last year. But anyways, from watching today's 5D's and the movie again, I had a new impression of everything. By the way, what sort of person was Paradox before he became the character we all know. I'm very anxious to know since we got told who Aporia, Bruno, and Z-ONE were beforehand.

Katsuono:
... Didn't we say he was a scientist in the movie?

Teilswing:
So what was the Yliadus that Placido was talking about?

Katsuono:
I'm going to say it's the souls of all the people sleeping inside the Ark Cradle. People like Paradox, Aporia, Antinomy and many more are sleeping inside the structure. They are no longer people of this world but...

Ariestellar:
When the marks of the Dragon unite, do the marks vanish from the character's arms onto Yusei's back? But if we go by 150... If they didn't disappear... but only Rua's was left... Does this have any significance?

Katsuono:
The light of the marks just vanishes, and remember, the others have clothes covering their marks.

Katsuono:
The Opening starts without the usual images! Don't miss Today's opening!

*Note: Referring to 151's opening, I'd assume.

Katsuono:
The Truth. The one Antinomy uses is a Double Accel Synchro. After Yusei plays Triple Accel Synchro at the end, I wanted to make them say "Triple Accel..." to Z-ONE. If it's anymore than Double, it's Triple.

Katsuono:
If it's a Triple Accel, it's due to 3 Revolutions around the course while Synchroing.

Inusuke12:
I was really moved when I watched the movie and 5D's today! It was so cool. Thank you so much! I do have a question, though...what was the order in which they all met with Z-ONE? Is Aporia's current look how he looked while he was Placido turning into Jose? Sorry for these two concerns...Thank you in advance!

Katsuono:
The order goes: Antinomy, Placido, Aporia. In regards to Aporia Ultimate, it's a special look. Just how Old Aporia and Jose differ.

(Ark Notes: He says Placido here, but I think he meant Paradox.)

mojiyou:
I have a question about 5D's. Is there any reason why Shooting Star Dragon, the Machine Emperors, and the cards scattered about the ruined future were all stone tablets? Is this some sort of homage to the original manga?

Katsuono:
The spirits that were turned to stone and went dormant were considering war in the future would destroy them.

Katsuono:
When he regained his memories of being Antinomy, he also retained his memories of being Bruno. As such, he decided to fight seriously while trying to help teach Yusei how to preform Delta Accel Synchro. If Yusei was defeated, that was that, but he believed that Yusei could surpass him and change the future.

Katsuono:
Now that I think about it, Bruno is ultimately trying to decide between his lost memories and his true friendship with Yusei, is he not?

Ariestellar:
Excuse me for changing the question so much. Is Aporia's mind that of the dying person he is named after? Or was it created and grown by Z-ONE?

Katsuono:
Aporia and the rest are all Machines made by Z-ONE. Please think of it as memories having been downloaded into them.

Seven_fall:
Please answer this if possible? Is there a reason why Bruno has no highlights in his eyes?

Katsuono:
Machine Characters were done with the basis of not having Highlights in their eyes, so when we put highlights in them, we made sure they weren't normal.

Null_D:
I had a question that suddenly came to me. During "The Revived Hero" (Ep. 149), According to the scene where Z-ONE was gathering all the data on Yusei, did you guys have in-depth plans for Cosmic Blazar Dragon and the Pegasus J. Crawford Cup?

Katsuono:
Those are things we haven't decided on precisely.

Yumigen:
Goodbye to the Production team for 5D's, I looked forward to it every week. There's one thing though I've been interested in for a long time... Do Rua and Ruka have a last name? Was it something you had stored away but never got a chance to use? I'm very interested, so if you could answer it, that would be great!

Katsuono:
That is something that eludes even me to this day. m(_ _)m

the8magician:
A simple question. If it's not too much trouble, please answer. While Bruno was living at Poppotime, did he have his own room. And did the decorative pillars at the start of 152 have some sort of symbolic meaning? Please tell me if it's not too much trouble.

Katsuono:
Bruno had no private room. He lived on the second floor Living Room. The image of the 3 people on the opening scene pillar represents the 3 D-Wheelers of Team 5D's who protected the city, and the image of the 3 of them holding up the pedestal represents how the trio supports the city and its people.

Kirakira666:
I had a few questions about 152. After Team 5D's beat Aporia, the Arc Cradle immediately showed up, right? So when did Team 5D's have a chance to take that commemorative victory photo that Yusei was looking at while talking. Also, Jack's suit was ripped up when Carly took a picture, right?

Katsuono:
The answer you want is the Ark Cradle didn't immediately appear after Aporia was knocked down. There was some time in between his defeat and the Ark Cradle's appearance.

Teilswing:
How many years after is 152 after 151?

Katsuono:
Somewhere along the lines of half a year.

Teilswing:
So, why is it that Power Tool Dragon is the only hand drawn dragon in the current opening?

Katsuono:
Because it was use so rarely, we never made a 3D Model for it.

Kamikazenowaiat:
Do Shooting Star Dragon and Scar-Red Nova Dragon's effects concerning tuners deal with the possibility of the future and the strength that's accumlated from the past, respectively?

Katsuono: Shooting Star Dragon has been said to be something that has the power to grasp the future. The current plotline is based around machines that oppose the existence of life. Synchro Monsters, thus, are symbols of life and evolution. These two Synchros who use Tuners to further power up are the embodiment of ever progressing further evolution.

Katsuono: By the way, for those who were crazy for the ending of the final story of this series, you'll enjoy the Special Edition Ending that will come with the DVD release.

Maytf5: How old were Yusei and his friends in the finale. (The only one we didn't see was Yusei, we did see Aki as a Doctor and Jack who returned to being King). It just came to mind to ask.

Katsuono: Jack was 29 years old, which is about 8 years after the final duel.

Katsuono: I remember a little. When we were thinking about the grand finale, with the duel with Team Ragnarok, who had DIVINE cards. Thor already split the sea, so Loki split Space-Time to return, and we had a monster who stood on the very opposite end of the horizon. (We were inspired by Genpei Tōma Den)
* Genpei Tōma Den = The Genji and the Heike Clans.

Katsuono: About the New World Duel. Despite having decided Jose's appearance, combining, and Meklord Emperor early on, those facts were still a mystery! Because they still hadn't exceeded god, I decided to make the duel when Aporia was formed a duel to protect people, changing it into a city smashing street fight. I think it worked out well.

Katsuono: Now what we shall we do after this? We're going to change things up with the End. There'll be an absurd duel which changes the background over and over!! This duel is one against Sherry that'll be made difficult due to this trick. Another duel will be against Aporia who this time combines with a base, Mr. Miyazaki's designs of it reminds me of Gradius. Such is that generation.

Katsuono: Then we go into space. Driving through a prominence and going around a sun. sorta like Salamander (Life Force). I can't wait to see it. In the confusion of the supernova explosion, a Black Hole formed. The reason for this was to create an anxious atmosphere. It was great how it was introduced like Saint Seiya.

Katsuono: And Aporia and Zone. Z-ONE was on top of the junk pile. Did anyone notice it was a double-sized version of the junk pile? Z-ONE's hands appear and he duels with a Deck of huge cards. Crow goes "That's Zone's Deck!?". Thus coming off as the Tsukkomi (Straight Man) in this stituation.

Katsuono: Finally we get to Yusei vs Z-ONE! The concept of Z-ONE's deck is Hocus Pocus from Dragon Quest. How Yusei flies in the air and confronts the Time Lords' varying effects is quite like the lottery of the spell Hocus Pocus. As we go on, I worry about Z-ONE's character alot.

Katsuono: Yusei is a human driving into outerspace. When we see Yusei drive his vehicle into Space, I think it's cool, it's strange, and it's really fascinating. The stance for preforming Limit Over Accel Synchro was decided to be gold. Please, don't mind this decision. {Something about thanking Sunrise (Gundam probably for Hyper Mode), and the song Heavy Rotation).

Katsuono: The last three episodes were all animated at the same time. We had it on mind whether we could go from the absuridity of the fight with Z-ONE to this, with returning to those who play this game as if it were a professional sport!

Katsuono: After that, I'd made a few last minute changes. We had the run shower down as they drove. We tried to show two different roads, but holding onto faith for one another while being a lone. Because it was 3D, we did them in an angle that really showed the action. I think I had to deal with a fan's cut (rage?) in a tunnel last year while touring. And then we get to the Industrial District.

Katsuono: When we get to the Industrial District, it's like running through a factory area in Tobishima, with factories spanning from horizon to horizon while going at full speed. I think I came up with this. When we decided to bring back Rally after a long time, he originally looked like a girl, so we wanted him to look more like a boy. I myself was confused about Rally at first, trying to remember if he was decided to be a man or a woman.

Katsuono: The end of the Duel is at the factory. As a story ending, it works perfectly! It's absurd, and I liked what we did with the furnace! And the ending ends with Junk Warrior! This was decided between Mr. Hikokubo and me! A huge fist falls for the final Scrap Fist, with a huge explostion!

Katsuono: Well, despite agreeing on a huge fist, it was so cool that you couldn't laugh. I kinda wanted to do a foot like the one from Monty Python... I thought with that kind of effect it'd be cool. The wharf after the duel is the same one where Jack stole Yusei's Stardust Dragon.

Katsuono: Yusei's last duel being at the factory brings the series full circle to where it began. I like to think that it suggests Yusei left Neo Domino City behind him. After the horrendous battle with Z-ONE, I wondered if it would be too much to go with a SportsyDuel. I was relieved with the different forms of excitement and tension the two hand.

Lastbell: Just curious, excuse me. Are Yusei and Crow the same age?

Katsuono: I believe it was established Crow is one year younger than Yusei.

sleep_ykk: Hrm, following you, I'd like to ask, how old are Kiryu and Bruno.

katsuono: Kiryu is two years older than Yusei. And because Bruno isn't human, he has no age.

tyou27: How old is Aki? Is she younger than Yusei?

katsuono: Aki is 2 years younger than Yusei.

nileblue_1025: How do you do, I apologize. Can you tell me how many years later the epilogue was. Also, the age of the twins then?

katsuono: It's eight years later. The twins are 21. I think.

nileblue_1025: Would it be possible to expect an official 5D's Fan Book with summaries, unmentioned D-Wheel names, unreleased card information, timelines, and character profiles?

katsuono: Retweet about this. Have people reach out for it! For 5D's!

mojiyou: With the Yu-Gi-Oh! Anime, how do things usually work out. In what order are the Storyboarding, Scenario, and Duel Planning?

Katsuono: First we plot out the episode(s). Then we write up a Duel. We write up a script/scenario. We adjust and tweak the duel to fit the scenario, make a few minor decisions and then go to storyboarding.

corrupt_ready: Was the "God" being referred to in the term of the "Card Given by God" that was used when Shooting Star Dragon appeared, referring to Z-ONE?

katsuono: Correct.

haruka_f: I have a question, why did Sherry's father take the card "Z-ONE" that leads to the alternate reality where Z-ONE exists? Was he a respected member of Yliaster?

Katsuono: Essentially, he began to doubt the orders of what he was making for Yliaster.

trigger_off: So from beginning to end, how much time has passed? When Yusei was "Daniel", he was 19. Is he 20 now?

katsuono: The plot of the series takes place over roughly 2-3 years, from Yusei being 18 to 20.

tina0151: The opening features Dark Magician and Kuriboh, which where key cards in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! What are they supposed to reflect in terms of the series? I'm anxious to know what your intent was.

katsuono: They go out in order of evolution. It's echoing the line of the song being played when that happens.

fujiiyouya: [Irrelevant Praise] How long ago did the events concerning Team Satisfaction occur?

Katsuono: About 3 years ago.

damfonmgg: When does the plot of the whole Paradox incident occur? I think it's either before or after Crashtown based on the plot description.

Katsuono: It's just before Crashtown.

null_D: In an attempt to struggle for a new power, Yusei went with fusing two Synchros together. Fusion was Juudai's gimmick. Speed Fusion has Yugi's Trump, Dark Magician, on it. Could it be said that his solution was based on his meeting with those two?

katsuono: Yes, of course!

In addition, here is a few bits and pieces taken from staff blogs/twitters

- According to Scenario Data, Crow was originally meant to be an enemy in the show.
- Sherry was planned to be shown naked in the fifth OP. (Someone had an issue with this.)
- The pictures of the monsters and those linked pictures in the ending were done with very fine details, so they look extremely well-done. If you judge it from the eventual DVD quality footage, you'll understand. (For the best quality, go with BluRay)."
- Bruno/Antinomy/Dark Glass's real name is Johnny and his team was Team Delta according to this.

Thanks so much for sharing this!

(Hahaha, I really can't see Bruno as Johnny. It's probably a good thing that they're using code names.)

Thanks for sharing, though I gotta laugh at this statement: // Sherry was planned to be shown naked in the fifth OP. (Someone had an issue with this.)// LOL WUT? HAHAHAHA!
